Doors of Paradise 1994; Gates of Transformation

Doors of Paradise 1994: Gates of Transformation, Colorado State University, Fort Collins, CO 1994, $2000.00 budget.  Commissioning agency-Colorado State University.  Panels 3 1/2'w x 7'h, 7 sculptures behind panels range from 3 1/2'h to 7'h, pedestal base is 15'w x 25'L Materials: copper sheet, titanium sheet, 3 inch steel infrastructure, flagstone, lighting, concrete.  Concept of piece focused on the transformations we experience throughout life and as a student through the educational process.  Project process proceeded through various committees, university governing bodies, collaborations with Architects, Landscape Architects, designed to invite and withstand human interaction.

Mural Surround for Darkside Cinema Entrance

Mural Surround for Darkside Cinema Entrance, Corvallis, OR  2011, $200.00 budget.  Commissioning agency: The Darkside Cinema.  Artistic collaboration with Megan Crooks.  3 1/2'w x 10'h.  Materials: waterproof underlayment, chalkboard paint, pastels, marine varnish.  Concept of piece was to create a magical threshold to the world of cinema and reflect thematic symbols of the theater and movies.

Jackson Street Youth Shelter Street Shade

Jackson Street Youth Shelter Sign/Privacy Shade, Corvallis, OR  2012,  $200.00 budget.  Collaboratively designed and installed with Terry Inokuma and youth from the shelter.  Approx. 8'w x 8'h.  Materials: waterproof underlayment, chalkboard paint, pastels, marine varnish, copper.  Concept was to create a design with which the youth could participate. Each panel has a personal drawing from a resident on the other side, leaving the drawings as a legacy of a safe time and place in their lives.

Bike Shelter and Gate


Bike Shelter and Gate Corvallis, OR  2013, Shelter designed by Karen and collaboratively produced with Dan McKenzie.  14'L x8'w x 12'h. Materials:  Steel, stained glass, wood, paint, clear corrugated roofing.  Designed to catch the environmental light year round, playfully celebrate alternative transportation, and provide an easy-to-access shelter to secure bikes.  Gate designed and produced by Karen Lee-Thompson.

Glass Mosaic Panel for Kaleth Art Studio


Glass Mosaic Panel for front of Kaleth Art Studio, Corvallis, OR  2014,  8'w x3 1/2'w.  Recycled glass, stained glass, glass drops, greenboard backer,  Laticrete thinset,  Laticrete Spectralock grout, Laticrete caulk, wood trim with exterior lacquer paint.  Flames filled with power flowers of love, a tribute to the invitation of color, art, and love.  Designed to catch the eye, invite conversation, collaboration and connections.


Philomath Public Library Art Bike Rack

​Arts competition for the City of Philomath. Collaboratively designed and created with Alexis Spakowski. Installed in front of the City of Philomath Public Library on August 15th, 2015. Coordinated with Philomath Arts Council, Treasury, Library and Philomath Facilities. Steel, Glass and ceramic mosaic installed on Wedi board, Laticrete Professional Products, Paint.  2014

Traveling the Applegate Trail, Philomath, OR

​Call to the Arts project for Philomath Arts Council. Coordinated with Philomath Arts Council, City Treasurer, Fabricator and Philomath Facilities. Installed in Reader Board Park along Hwy 20. ​An Art Installation consisting of three sculptures whimsically depicting the pilgrams traveling Applegate Trail to a new home in Philomath using wagon wheels and outlines of Philomath's historical buildings. Used Proffessional grade products designed to last Freeze/thaw/wet/UV.  Very little upkeep.
